Every release, newest first.
pepito 26.32 - Privacy on autopilot, and a snappier app
This release puts you in control of your data with automatic cleanup of sensitive recordings, while making everyday interactions feel faster and more polished. Your meeting notes stay; the raw audio doesn't have to.
- Set your recordings to clean themselves up. Say hello to automatic purge. Turn it on in the new Privacy tab and pepito will automatically remove audio and transcription files after a delay you choose - 24 hours, 48 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. Your summaries, notes and meeting details are always kept, so you lose nothing that matters. Perfect for confidentiality and data-retention rules.
- See exactly what's happening. In the Recordings window, each item shows a countdown to its purge, and a clear "audio purged" banner once the files are gone - no surprises, full transparency.
- A faster popover. Say goodbye to the little hang when opening the menu bar popover. Microphone detection and your upcoming calendar events now load in the background, so the popover appears instantly.
- Quicker, safer stop in Mini mode. In the Mini status bar, a single click now arms the stop (the icon turns into a stop button for 2 seconds), and a second click confirms it. Prefer the old way? A double-click still stops immediately.
- A more polished install. The installer disk image now mounts as "pepito Installer", making first-time setup feel that much cleaner.
To celebrate, we're sharing a launch promo code: PEPILOVE26. Enjoy the new privacy controls, and thanks for using pepito!
pepito 26.31 - Cleaner Summaries, More AI Providers
This release sharpens the AI side of pepito. Your meeting summaries now come out crisp and free of terminal noise, and you have one more local AI provider to choose from.
- You can now use opencode as your AI provider. If you have the opencode.ai CLI installed, pepito detects it automatically and adds it to the AI provider picker in Settings - alongside Claude, Gemini, Codex and Ollama.
- Say goodbye to garbled Ollama summaries. Ollama's progress animations used to leak strange characters into your reports (
\x1b[2D\x1b[Kand friends). Those are gone - only the model's actual words make it into your meeting notes. - Reasoning models stay focused on the result. When using thinking models like DeepSeek-R1 or Qwen3, the internal "Thinking..." block is now hidden from your summaries. You get the conclusion, not the scratch paper.
Pick the AI that fits your workflow, and enjoy cleaner output across the board.
pepito 26.30 - Faster controls, quieter recordings
This release is all about getting out of your way. We streamlined how you start and stop recordings, made Mini mode truly silent, and cleaned up the menu bar so pepito feels lighter than ever.
- Double-click to record. You can now double-click the menu bar icon to instantly start a recording, or stop the one in progress. A single click still opens the popover as usual, so both actions are right at your fingertips.
- Truly silent Mini mode. When Mini mode auto-stops a recording because of silence, it now does so quietly, no popup, no interruption. Your auto-started meetings wrap up on their own without ever asking for attention.
- A cleaner Mini icon. Mini mode now uses a refined conversation icon without the red dot, for a more discreet presence in your menu bar.
- A simpler menu bar. We removed the old Discreet mode to keep things focused. Normal and Mini modes cover everything you need, with less clutter.
Less friction, fewer clicks, more focus on your meetings. Enjoy!
pepito 26.29 - Transcription you can trust, back to Whisper
This release is all about transcription quality. After putting the latest engine through real-world meetings, we listened to the results and made a decisive call: we're bringing back the proven Whisper engine so your transcripts are accurate from the very first word.
- Sharper, more reliable transcripts. We've switched back to the battle-tested Whisper engine. In day-to-day meetings it simply produces better, more dependable transcriptions, and that's what matters most.
- Choose the model that fits your machine. You can now pick the transcription model that works best for you - from the fastest lightweight options to the highest-quality large models - right from the settings.
- Bring your own model source. Power users can configure a custom model download URL, making it easy to work within internal networks or your preferred hosting setup.
- Smarter vocabulary handling. Your custom vocabulary is once again fed directly to the engine, helping it get names, acronyms, and domain-specific terms right.
We'd rather give you transcription you can rely on than chase the newest engine for its own sake. Enjoy cleaner meeting notes!
pepito 26.26 - Fewer limits, a smoother start, easier buying
This release loosens the free plan, streamlines your first run, and makes purchasing a license seamless. Whether you're just getting started or ready to go pro, things just got simpler.
- Record as much as you want, every day. Say goodbye to the 3-recordings-per-day cap on the free plan. The only remaining free limit is 50 minutes per recording, so you can capture as many meetings a day as you need.
- A faster, friendlier onboarding. The setup wizard is now shorter and snappier - one fewer step to get through. Auto-recording for specific apps is still fully configurable later in Settings whenever you want it.
- Buy your license without leaving the page. Purchasing pepito is now a smooth, integrated checkout experience, with license emails delivered reliably right after payment.
- Clearer licensing terms. Our terms now spell out the single named-user license clearly, along with transparent VAT and invoicing information for your purchase.
Less friction, more recording. Enjoy the upgrade!
Pepito 26.25 - Speak Your Language, Literally
Pepito 26.25 is all about making your recordings smarter and more reliable. Teach pepito your vocabulary, enjoy broader auto-recording support, and benefit from improved compatibility with the latest AI models.
- Custom vocabulary for better transcription. You can now define your own vocabulary - proper nouns, acronyms, technical jargon - and pepito will use it to improve both transcription accuracy and summary generation. Head to Settings > AI to add your words and their descriptions.
- Chrome and Safari join the auto-record party. Auto-recording now monitors Chrome and Safari in addition to previously supported apps. Start a meeting in your browser and pepito picks it up automatically.
- Fixed title generation with newer AI models. Models like GPT-5, o1 and o3-mini that don't support temperature=0 were causing title extraction to fail silently. This is now fixed - pepito respects your configured temperature setting and surfaces errors properly when something goes wrong.
Upgrade now and let pepito learn the words that matter to you.
pepito 26.23 - See Your Audio, Live
This release brings real-time audio level indicators to your status bar and a completely refreshed website that better reflects what pepito is all about.
What's New
- Real-time audio level indicators in the status bar - You can now see at a glance whether your microphone and system audio are actively capturing signal during a recording. Two colored bars (green = active, red = silent, grey = disabled) appear below the recording timer in Normal and Discreet modes, so you'll never wonder if your audio is actually being picked up.
- New setting to toggle audio indicators - Prefer a cleaner status bar? Head to Settings > General > Appearance to show or hide the audio level indicators. The option is available for Normal and Discreet display modes.
- Fresh app icon - pepito sports a new, sharper icon across all resolutions, giving it a more polished look in your Dock and menu bar.
- Redesigned website - The pepito website has been completely revamped with a privacy-first message, a new trust section, an interactive pipeline walkthrough, and a clearer roadmap - all reflecting the core promise that your meeting data never leaves your Mac.
Happy recording!
pepito 26.22 - Speak Any Language, We'll Follow
pepito 26.22 brings smarter language handling and a brand-new audio experience right inside your recording details. Whether your meetings are in French, English, or any other language, pepito now adapts seamlessly.
What's New
- Configurable summary language: You can now choose whether your meeting summaries follow the detected spoken language automatically or stick to a fixed language of your choice. Head to Settings > Transformation to pick from all Whisper-supported languages - perfect for multilingual teams who need consistent output.
- Automatic language detection stored in recordings: pepito now remembers which language was detected during transcription, making it available for smarter summary generation and future reference.
- Inline audio waveform player: Say goodbye to switching apps to replay your recordings. The recording detail view now features an iMessage-style waveform player with play/pause, drag-to-scrub, and a dynamic waveform that adapts to your window size. It's the fastest way to jump back into any moment of your meeting.
- Refined recording indicator: The recording status indicator now uses macOS system orange for a cleaner, more native look.
Enjoy a smoother, more polished pepito - update now and let your meetings speak for themselves.
pepito 26.21 - Your Recordings, Better Protected
This release is all about peace of mind. We've overhauled how pepito handles your audio recordings to make sure nothing gets lost - even in edge cases. We also squashed a bug that affected recording in Discreet and Mini modes.
- Three-layer safety net for your recordings. pepito now cross-checks actual audio file duration before deciding a recording is too short, guards against unreliable timer values, and moves discarded files to a recovery folder instead of deleting them permanently. You have a 24-hour window to recover any accidentally discarded recording.
- Fixed recording in Discreet and Mini modes. A bug could prevent recordings from working correctly when using the compact status bar modes. That's now resolved - record confidently in any mode.
- Smoother startup performance. Cleanup tasks that used to run on the main path now happen quietly in the background, so the app feels snappier when you open it.
Upgrade today and record with confidence.
26.20 - Your Recording, Your Way 🤫
pepito 26.20 puts you in control of how recordings look and feel. Choose between three display modes, rename your recordings on the fly, and enjoy a cleaner, more polished interface throughout.
- Three recording display modes. You can now choose how pepito appears in your menu bar during a recording. *Normal* keeps the familiar orange bar with a timer. *Discreet* shows minimal stop and note buttons that blend with your system. *Mini* reduces everything to a subtle red dot on the app icon - perfect for staying focused. Switch anytime in Settings > General > Appearance.
- Rename recordings and get AI title suggestions. You can now rename any recording directly from the list. Need inspiration? Hit the AI suggest button and let your LLM generate a meaningful title based on the transcript content.
- Quick access to Settings from the popover. A new gear icon in the popover header lets you jump straight into preferences without opening the right-click menu.
A focused update that makes daily use noticeably smoother.
26.19 - Never Lose a Meeting Title Again
pepito 26.19 is all about resilience. When AI-powered title extraction doesn't go as planned, you now have a clear path to recovery - no guesswork, no confusing filenames.
- Retry title extraction on demand. If the LLM fails to generate a title for your meeting summary, a new "Retry Title" button appears right in the recording detail view. One click and pepito takes another shot at naming your file properly.
- Cleaner fallback filenames. When title extraction isn't available, recordings now use a readable
Recording-HHmmssformat instead of the previous hard-to-parse timestamp string. - Better visibility into failures. pepito now tracks and surfaces when title extraction didn't succeed, so you always know which recordings need attention.
Small release, big quality-of-life improvement.
26.18 - Bluetooth Microphones flap Fixed
pepito 26.18 focuses on reliability for Bluetooth microphone users. If you've ever hit silent recordings when using a Bluetooth headset as your "Default" mic, this update is for you.
- Bluetooth mic recording now works reliably. Previously, selecting "Default" as your microphone could result in a completely silent mic track when using a Bluetooth device. pepito now correctly resolves the default device to the actual physical microphone, preventing audio loss caused by macOS aggregate device conflicts.
- Safer fallback when mic audio is missing. In the rare event that the microphone track ends up empty or missing after a recording, pepito now gracefully falls back to system audio only instead of failing the entire post-processing pipeline. Your meeting audio is preserved no matter what.
Update now and record with confidence - Bluetooth or not.
pepito 26.17 - Lighter, Smarter, More Polished
This release drops an external dependency in favor of native Apple audio encoding, adds helpful visual cues to the menu bar, and squashes several annoying edge-case bugs. pepito is now leaner and even easier to use.
- Native M4A export replaces MP3 - Audio export now uses Apple's built-in AAC encoder instead of the third-party SwiftLAME library. The result: zero external dependencies, smaller app size, and no licensing headaches. Your existing MP3 recordings remain fully readable.
- See auto-record status at a glance - The menu bar icon now displays a small bolt overlay whenever auto-record mode is active, so you always know when pepito is listening for meetings.
- Smarter microphone list in clamshell mode - When your MacBook lid is closed and connected to an external display, the built-in microphone is now automatically hidden from the device list since macOS disables it anyway.
- Open-source acknowledgements - A new section in the About view lists the open-source libraries pepito depends on, along with their licenses.
Happy updating!
pepito 26.16 - More reliable, more consistent
This update focuses on pepito's robustness. System audio capture now starts more reliably, MP3 export no longer crashes on certain problematic recordings, and your notes and summary files are named consistently.
- No more MP3 export crashes - Some recordings containing unusual audio values could cause a crash during MP3 conversion. This is fixed: export now works in all cases.
- More reliable system audio capture - System audio capture startup now includes an automatic retry mechanism with cleanup of orphaned resources when failures occur. Error messages are also more user-friendly.
- Consistent file naming - Notes and summary files now use the recording date (not the generation date) and a normalized title. No more duplicate files or inconsistent naming across your documents.
Happy updating!
pepito 26.15
A cleaner microphone list
This update brings a welcome cleanup to the interface and strengthens the processing pipeline under the hood.
- Simplified microphone list - Internal aggregate devices created by pepito ("pepito-Detector") no longer show up in the microphone selection list. You now only see your real microphones, with no confusion.
- More robust processing pipeline - Transcription and summary generation now share a common foundation, making error recovery more reliable and consistent whether it's the initial processing or a manual retry.
Happy updating!
pepito 26.14 - Rock-Solid Reliability
pepito 26.14 is all about stability and resilience. This release eliminates a crash that could occur when recordings stopped automatically, and introduces retry capabilities so you never lose a recording to a transient failure.
- No more crashes on auto-stop. A bug could cause pepito to crash when a recording ended automatically, particularly depending on the microphone configuration in use. This is now fixed - recordings stop cleanly every time, regardless of which audio input mode you're using.
- Retry failed recordings. If mixing or MP3 export fails mid-pipeline, you can now retry directly from the recordings list instead of being stuck with a broken entry. Hit retry and pepito picks up right where it left off - re-exporting the audio, then continuing through transcription and summary generation.
- Better pipeline resilience. Recording metadata now updates at each processing step, so if anything unexpected happens, your recording status stays accurate and recoverable. No more orphaned "in progress" states after a crash.
- Smarter audio handling. MP3 encoding now uses the actual source sample rate instead of a hardcoded value, and WAV files are validated before encoding begins - catching problems early rather than failing silently.
Upgrade now for a more reliable recording experience.
pepito 26.13 - Smoother Updates
A small maintenance release focused on making sure pepito updates reach you without a hitch.
- Fixed download links. Some download URLs were broken, preventing the auto-updater from fetching new versions correctly. Everything is back on track - updates will now download reliably.
- Improved update infrastructure. The update delivery system has been streamlined for faster, more consistent downloads.
This is a housekeeping release - stay tuned for feature updates coming soon!
pepito 26.12 - Faster, More Reliable Downloads
This release improves how pepito delivers updates to your Mac.
- Downloads now go through pepito's own domain. Instead of pulling files from a third-party host directly, update packages are served through a dedicated proxy for faster and more consistent delivery - especially in corporate network environments.
A small change you probably won't notice, but your next update should feel just a little snappier.
pepito 26.11 - Update Loop Squashed
Short and sweet: if you noticed pepito kept asking you to update over and over after installing a new version, that's now fixed.
- Say goodbye to the endless update prompt. A bug caused the auto-updater to think a newer version was always available, even right after updating. Both the app version and the build number are now correctly set during each release, so the updater stays quiet once you're current.
Back to normal - update once, and you're good to go.
pepito 26.10 - FaceTime Fixed and Rock-Solid Reliability
FaceTime users, this one's for you. Auto-recording for FaceTime calls is now fully operational, and the entire app has been hardened for day-to-day reliability.
- FaceTime auto-recording now works as expected. FaceTime routes its audio through a system helper process, and pepito's detection has been updated to catch it correctly. Just start a FaceTime call and recording begins automatically.
- Recording sessions are now safer under heavy use. Internal protections prevent conflicts when multiple actions happen at the same time, so you can trust that every recording completes cleanly.
- Fewer surprises, fewer crashes. Risky code patterns have been replaced with safe fallbacks throughout the app, eliminating a whole class of potential issues before they ever reach you.
- Cleaner internals for faster future development. Window management has been refactored and unused code removed, paving the way for new features down the road.
A more dependable pepito - exactly what a recording tool should be.
pepito 26.9 - Always Up to Date, Automatically
Keeping your tools current shouldn't be a chore. Starting with this release, pepito checks for updates on its own and lets you know when a new version is ready to install.
- You can now receive automatic update notifications right inside the app. No more manually checking the website or wondering if you're running the latest version.
- Updates happen quietly and smoothly. If something goes wrong during the check, pepito handles it gracefully in the background - no error popups at startup, no interruptions.
Just keep doing your thing - pepito will tap you on the shoulder when there's something new.
pepito 26.8 - Auto-Record All Your Favorite Meeting Apps
pepito just got a whole lot smarter about when to start recording. What used to work only with Microsoft Teams now covers six of the most popular communication apps - so you never miss a meeting again, no matter which platform your team uses.
- You can now auto-record calls from Teams, Zoom, Webex, Slack, Discord, and FaceTime. Each app is independently detected, so pepito kicks in the moment any supported call begins.
- Say goodbye to Teams-only limitations. The old Teams-specific detector has been replaced with a brand-new multi-app engine that watches for calls across all six apps simultaneously.
- A new Auto Recording settings tab lets you pick exactly which apps should trigger automatic recording. Migrating from an older version? Your existing settings carry over automatically.
- Under the hood, diagnostics got a major upgrade. Every component now uses structured logging with clear categories, making it far easier to troubleshoot if anything goes sideways.
Whether you're on a Zoom standup or a Discord huddle, pepito has you covered.
pepito 26.7 - Meeting Notes, Onboarding Wizard, and a Fresh Feel
This is a big one. pepito 26.7 brings live meeting notes, a guided first-launch experience, and a wave of interface refinements that make the whole app feel more polished and intentional.
What's New
- Take meeting notes right from the status bar. A new button lets you create or open a Markdown notes file while recording. The file comes pre-filled with a contextual header - date, calendar event details - so you can jump straight into writing. Even better, your notes are sent to the AI alongside the transcript, producing richer and more accurate summaries.
- Welcome screen onboarding wizard. First-time users are now greeted with an 8-step setup assistant covering permissions, storage, Whisper model, summary preferences, AI configuration, and Teams setup. Animated transitions, a step indicator, and Previous/Next/Skip navigation make it a breeze. Already set up? You can relaunch it anytime from Settings.
- Configurable minimum recording duration. You can now set the threshold between 5 and 60 seconds - replacing the previous fixed value. There is also a new option to automatically open your meeting notes file once the minimum duration is reached.
- One shortcut to rule them all. Start and Stop have been merged into a single Toggle Recording keyboard shortcut. Simpler to configure, simpler to use.
- Pause/resume removed. The pause feature has been retired - it was not needed during real-world recordings and only added clutter.
- New default storage location. Recordings now save to
~/Library/Application Support/pepito/Recordingsinstead of the Desktop, keeping things organized out of the box. - Refreshed status bar look. The recording badge has been refined with a darker color, reduced shadow, rounder corners, and a smaller font for a cleaner appearance.
- Updated status bar icons. Stop and notes buttons sport new icons that are easier to read at a glance.
- Notes accessible from the recordings list. You can view and open meeting notes directly from any recording's detail view. Notes are cleaned up automatically when a recording is deleted.
The most feature-packed update yet. Update now and bring your meeting workflow to the next level.
pepito 26.6 - Small Tweaks, Smoother Experience
A focused quality-of-life update that keeps things tidy and puts controls where you need them.
What's New
- Accidental recordings are automatically discarded. Any recording shorter than 10 seconds is now ignored - no more leftover files from a misclick or a quick test. Temporary files are cleaned up on the spot.
- Toggle Teams auto-record straight from the menu bar. You can now enable or disable automatic Teams recording directly from the popover - no need to dig into Settings every time.
Short and sweet. Update and enjoy a cleaner workflow.
pepito 26.5 - Your Meetings, Recorded Automatically
pepito just got a whole lot smarter. This landmark release introduces automatic recording for Microsoft Teams calls - no more forgetting to hit record before a meeting starts. Just open Teams, join a call, and let pepito handle the rest.
What's New
- Automatic Teams call recording. pepito now detects when a Microsoft Teams call begins and starts recording after 10 seconds of sustained audio. When the call goes silent, it prompts you to stop - or you can click "Keep Recording" to stay in full manual control for the rest of the session.
- You can fine-tune auto-stop behavior. A new "Auto-stop after silence" toggle lets you disable silence detection entirely. When turned off, recording continues no matter what - even if Teams quits - until you manually stop it. Perfect for back-to-back calls or long pauses mid-meeting.
- Configurable silence delay. Choose how long pepito waits before suggesting a stop - the default is 30 seconds, adjustable in Settings.
- Say goodbye to clipped menus on small screens. The status bar menu now uses native positioning, so it always fits properly regardless of your display size.
- Quick access to your AI model folder. A new "Open Folder" button sits right next to the model download option in AI settings, making it easier to manage your Whisper models.
Set it up once in Settings, and every Teams call from now on is captured. One less thing to think about before your next meeting.
pepito 26.4 - Import, Control, Customize
pepito 26.4 is packed with new features. Import external audio files, fine-tune your notifications, configure a network proxy, and take more control over your recordings than ever before.
- Import your own MP3 files. You can now drop any external MP3 into pepito, set a recording date, provide free-form context for the AI, and let it run through the full transcription-to-summary pipeline automatically. Perfect for meetings recorded outside the app.
- Cancel processing at any time. Changed your mind mid-transcription or mid-summary? Hit the new cancel button in the recordings history to stop any in-progress pipeline step.
- Choose which notifications you receive. The new Notifications settings tab lets you toggle success notifications for recording, transcription, and summary individually. Error notifications stay always on so nothing critical slips by.
- Connect through your corporate proxy. A new Network (Proxy) settings tab lets you configure HTTP/HTTPS proxy host, port, and optional authentication - ideal for enterprise environments.
- Delete recordings you no longer need. A delete button with a confirmation dialog lets you permanently remove recording files while keeping your summary markdown intact.
- Richer meeting context from your calendar. The organizer from your calendar event is now included in the meeting context, giving the AI more information to work with when generating summaries.
- Retry is smarter about missing files. If the original WAV was cleaned up, retry now falls back to the MP3 file so you can still re-run transcription without issues.
- Streamlined settings. The "Delay Before Recording" countdown and the mini status bar option have been removed in favor of a simpler, always-compact experience.
- About pepito. A new About menu item links you directly to the project website.
- Polished UI touches. The import button now has a clear label, and the Manage Recordings button in the popover has been restyled for better visibility.
Your most versatile pepito yet - update and make it yours.
pepito 26.3 - Meet Your Recordings History
This is a big one. pepito now has a dedicated recordings history window, GPU-accelerated transcription, and a handful of quality-of-life improvements that make the whole experience smoother and faster.
- Browse all your recordings in one place. The new Recordings History window shows every recording grouped by day, with expandable rows, real-time pipeline status, and the ability to retry failed transcription or summary steps right from the list.
- Transcription just got a serious speed boost. Whisper.cpp now runs with Metal GPU acceleration, offloading work to your Mac's GPU for significantly faster transcriptions.
- Say goodbye to bloated storage. WAV files are automatically deleted after a successful transcription - your MP3 and SRT files are kept, saving you disk space without losing anything important.
- No more muffled audio while recording. System audio used to get quieter during capture. That is fixed - your speakers now play at full volume while pepito records in the background.
- Cleaner popover, smarter menus. Settings and Quit have moved to the right-click context menu on the status bar icon, keeping the main popover focused on what matters. If a recording is in progress, you will get a confirmation dialog before quitting.
- Recordings now have titles. Each recording carries a title field in its metadata, making it easier to identify sessions at a glance.
This release sets the foundation for a much more powerful pepito - update and enjoy the speed.
pepito 26.2 - Sound On!
We squashed a sneaky bug that was turning your system audio recordings into silence. This patch release makes sure every word from your meetings comes through loud and clear.
- Your system audio recordings actually work now. Previously, recordings could end up completely silent due to the way system audio was captured. We switched to a proper global audio tap approach, so every sound from your Mac is reliably picked up.
- No more format mismatch errors on startup. Audio files are now created only when real audio data arrives, eliminating a timing issue that could cause recording failures.
A small but mighty fix - update now and never lose a recording to silence again.
